Day 1: Chandigarh to Manali – Begin the Journey
Your exciting Leh tour starts with a scenic drive from Chandigarh to Manali. As you leave the plains behind, the landscape gradually changes to lush hills and pine forests. The drive takes around 8-9 hours, allowing you to relax and soak in the beautiful mountain views. Arrive in Manali by evening and check into your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Manali to Sarchu – Entering the Himalayas
After an early breakfast, embark on the adventurous drive towards Sarchu, the gateway to Ladakh. Crossing the Rohtang Pass (13,050 ft), you’ll witness breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks and rugged terrain. Continue your journey through the valleys of Lahaul and Spiti, stopping for meals and photo breaks. Reach Sarchu by evening, where tents and camps offer a comfortable overnight stay amid the mountains.
Day 3: Sarchu to Leh via Baralacha La and Tanglang La
This is one of the most thrilling days of your tour as you drive over two of the highest passes in India – Baralacha La (16,040 ft) and Tanglang La (17,480 ft). The roads wind through dramatic landscapes of barren mountains, turquoise lakes, and winding rivers. After crossing these passes, descend into the Leh Valley, arriving by late afternoon. Rest and acclimatize to the high altitude at your hotel in Leh.
Day 4: Leh Local Sightseeing and Acclimatization
Take this day easy to adjust to the altitude and avoid any health issues. Visit some key sites such as Leh Palace, an ancient royal palace with stunning views of the town. Explore the bustling Leh Market, Shanti Stupa, and the beautiful Namgyal Tsemo Monastery. In the evening, enjoy the local culture and cuisine. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 5: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass
After breakfast, set out on an exhilarating drive to Nubra Valley, crossing Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world (18,380 ft). The landscape changes to wide valleys and sand dunes. Visit the Diskit Monastery and enjoy a camel ride on the cold desert’s sand dunes. Spend the night in Nubra Valley.
Day 6: Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake
Leave Nubra early and head towards the stunning Pangong Lake, famous for its crystal-clear blue waters and dramatic mountain backdrop. En route, cross the Chang La Pass (17,590 ft), another high mountain pass offering breathtaking views. Arrive at Pangong Lake by afternoon and spend time exploring and relaxing beside the lake. Overnight stay in camps near Pangong.
Day 7: Pangong Lake to Leh
Wake up to the serene beauty of Pangong Lake and then drive back to Leh. En route, stop at spots to capture the magnificent landscapes and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Return to Leh by evening for some rest and optional shopping. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 8: Leh to Alchi and Lamayuru Monasteries – Cultural Tour
Spend the day visiting some of Ladakh’s most famous monasteries. Start with Alchi Monastery, known for its ancient wall paintings and beautiful architecture. Then proceed to Lamayuru Monastery, perched dramatically on a hilltop. Both offer insight into the region’s rich Buddhist culture. Return to Leh for your final overnight stay.
Day 9: Leh to Chandigarh Departure
After breakfast, prepare for your journey back home. Depending on your travel arrangements, you may catch a flight or start your drive back towards Chandigarh, carrying unforgettable memories of the majestic landscapes, rich culture, and adventure of Ladakh.
